And somewhere out there, right now, someone is answering with some version of "it depends" — because it does depend, on things a tray-sizing chart has no way of knowing. Is your table of twelve four teenagers and eight adults, or twelve people who each eat like it's a competitive sport? Is anyone doing seconds? Is there a vegetarian in the group who's going to eat more of the one veg dish because it's the only thing they can have? A tray doesn't know any of that. It just says "serves 8-12" and leaves you to gamble.
The question shouldn't exist
We didn't build a bigger, smarter tray-sizing chart to solve this for event catering. We deleted the question. There is no half tray. There is no full tray. There is no "serves roughly" guesswork on our catering page. You enter the number of confirmed guests — the one number you actually know for certain — and the system does the rest: exact quantities, exact price, done. All chicken, lamb, and goat meats are 100% certified Halal, and vegetarian dishes are cooked with dedicated cookware, ensuring dietary confidence across diverse guest lists. The "is this enough" question simply isn't a step in our process.
Why this actually matters for real events
- Corporate lunches have a hard headcount from an RSVP list — per-person pricing maps to that number exactly, no rounding up "just in case" on the company card.
- Weddings and showers have guest counts that shift right up until the week of — adjusting a per-person order up or down is just changing a number, not re-negotiating tray counts.
- Family gatherings are the worst case for tray guessing, because appetite varies wildly across ages and nobody wants to be the one who under-ordered for Grandma's 70th.
In every one of these, the tray model asks you to predict the future. Ours just asks you to count the people who already said yes.
